- Identify the materials you would like copied by searching our collections or visiting the Reference and Research Room. Reference staff are available to help.
- Using the Yukon Archives record request template as a guide, record the collection name, accession number and item number of each item you would like a copy of.
- Read the “Access Restriction” section of the archival descriptions to check if special permissions are required to order copies of the item(s).
- Review Yukon Archives’ copyright guide to learn about using materials in accordance with the Copyright Act.
- To place your reproduction order, contact the Yukon Archives Reference Team at Yukon.Archives@yukon.ca, 867-667-8061, or toll-free in Yukon at 1-800-661-0408 ext. 8061.
- List the collection name, accession number, and item number for the record(s) you would like copied, as well as the format and size you need.
- Tell us if you will be using the reproduction for research, personal use, display, publication or commercial use.
- Tell us how you would like to receive your reproduction. Depending on format, we can arrange:
- shipping via Canada Post;
- electronic transferring through our SFT (Secure File Transfer) site; or
- pick up in-person.
- Reference staff will assess your order. Depending on the items requested and the proposed use, we may ask you to sign a reproduction agreement or to provide proof of donor permissions.
- Make your payment according to our fees. You can pay by:
- cash;
- cheque payable to Government of Yukon;
- credit card (American Express, MasterCard, Visa);
- debit/interac;
- money order; or
- traveller's cheques.
- Once the payment has been made and all required paperwork has been submitted, the digitization technician start processing your order. Standard processing times vary:
- Photocopies: 2 to 4 business days;
- Image reproductions: 20 to 30 business days;
- Sound and moving image reproductions: contact Reference for an estimate.
Rush orders are not available.
- We will contact you once your order is ready.
Some material in our collections may be unavailable for reproduction, or may be unavailable in the quantities you request.
You can make your own reproductions at Yukon Archives.
Scanner
You can use our overhead scanner to make copies of material for research purposes. Bring your own USB Flash Drive to save your scans.
Microfilm readers
Our microfilm readers have self-service printers and scanners. Bring your own USB Flash Drive to save your scans.
We waive the fee for self-service scans. Self-service print-outs from microfilm readers are $0.45 per page.
Using your own equipment
You can use your own equipment to make reproductions. Make sure the reference attendant reviews your equipment and confirms that it doesn't pose a threat to the records. Sign the relevant documents to make sure you follow our rules for copyright, use and citation.
You must credit Yukon Archives when using a reproduction. This includes use in:
- books;
- magazines;
- newspapers;
- television productions;
- films;
- posters;
- websites; or
- any other format.
Citations
The precise format for a citation will vary according to the record type or format. In general, the form of the citation is as follows:
Yukon Archives, fonds/collection name, accession number, location reference. Optional description of the item.
Get permission
Reproducing archive materials for research or private study does not require permissions.
For all other uses, you need our permission before making copies of, modifying, or publishing our reproductions.
You are responsible for complying with the Copyright Act. It is your responsibility to find the copyright holder and to obtain permission to copy and/or to publish copies of records from Yukon Archives.

We follow international standards and best practices for digitization. This includes:
- Yukon Archives standard for digitizing photographs.
- Yukon Archives metadata standard for image masters created through digitization.
- Yukon Archives standard for digitizing sound recordings.
- Yukon Archives metadata standard for audio masters created through digitization.
We follow the Yukon Archives File Naming Standard for Digitized Archival and Published Material for naming files.
We manage the number of times we digitize our material to keep it well-preserved.
Reproduction equipment
Images
Our equipment includes:
- Epson V750 Pro and Epson 10000XL flatbed scanners;
- Contex HD5450 wide format scanner;
- Betterlight Super 8K-HS digital scanning back;
- North Light 900W HID lights; and
- Epson Stylus Pro 3880 printer.
We capture images using Epson Scan and process them using Adobe Photoshop.
Audio
Our equipment includes:
- Studer A807 audio reel recorder and reproducers;
- Sony TC-WE305 cassette deck; and
- Edirol UA-25EX 24bit/96kHz USB audio interface.
We use Adobe Audition for processing audio.
We work in a Windows 7 64-bit Enterprise environment.
Reproduction fees below don't include the federal Goods and Services Tax (GST). GST is calculated and added to the final total.
Copier reproduction fees
Size of original up to 11" x 17".
- 8.5" x 11": 45 cents per page.
- 8.5" x 14": 45 cents per page.
- 11" x 17": 45 cents per page.
"Page" is a photocopier produced digital copy or printer produced paper copy. It can be in colour or black and white.
Still image reproductions
- 8" x 10": $9 per print.
- 11" x 14": $9 per print.
- 16" x 20": $27 per print.
"Print" is a paper copy on photographic "luster" finish paper. It's available in colour or black and white.
Digital file reproductions
- Size of original up to 11" x 14": $9 per item.
- Size of original larger than 11" x 14": $27 per item.
"Item" is content reproduced in image form. It can be in colour or black and white.
We will provide you with a digital file in TIFF format on:
- CD or DVD;
- USB Flash Drive; or
- electronic transfer through our SFT site.
Sound reproductions
- Analog source record converted to a digital file: $10 per item.
- Digital source record (audio CD format, DAT or MP3) copied: $10 per item.
"Item" is a single audio production. It can be analog or digital format. We provide you with a digital file in MP3 format on:
- CD or DVD;
- USB Flash Drive; or
- electronic transfer through our SFT site.
Moving image reproductions
- Analog VHS copied onto a client-provided VHS: $20 per item.
- Analog VHS copied to DVD: $20 per item.
- Digital source record (MPEG-2) copied to a CD, DVD or USB Flash Drive: $20 per item.
"Item" is a single film or video production. It can be analog or digital format.
Mailing fees
- There is no charge for "business regular" mail delivery through Canada Post.
- You can use a courier service if you make the arrangements and pay them directly.
Waiver of fees
Clients
There is no charge if you make your own digital copies.
We may also waive all or part of the reproduction fee if:
- payment would impose an unreasonable financial hardship on the recipient; or
- such other circumstances exist that would make it appropriate to do so.

Government of Yukon departments
There is no charge for copies if:
- you request a copy of a record that we acquired from your department; and
- your request is for less than 100 pages.
If your request is for 100 pages or more you will pay the regular rate for all pages.
We can't often process non-standard requests. This is partly because we need to manage how often we handle the records. It also depends on staff and equipment availability, workflow and processing times.
We may be able to provide you with reproductions that you can then enhance yourself or through a 3rd party service provider. You will still need to follow our licensing and other agreements.
