Renew an insurance professional licence
All insurance professional in the Yukon must:
- register;
- hold a Yukon licence; and
- renew their licence every year.
Listed below is information on:
- eligibility;
- the documentation you'll need to provide to renew; and
- fees.
We recommend reviewing this information before you apply to renew you licence.
Renewal period
The renewal period begins June 1. Apply for your renewal by August 1. This ensures we can process your licence before it expires on September 30.
It's illegal to do business or work in the new licence year before we've renewed your licence.
Processing time
We'll automatically renew applications that meet all requirements.
If we cannot automatically renew your application we'll review it within 30 business days. We'll confirm you've met all the legal requirements before we issue your licence.
We cannot process your application if you have not provided us with all the information or documentation we need.
Eligibility
You can apply to renew your insurance agent licence if you meet the following requirements:
- you hold a current Yukon insurance agent licence; and
- you work:
- for a Yukon-licensed agency that has permission from a licensed insurer to sell their products; or
- independent of an agency and have permission from a licensed insurer to sell their products.
Registered in another jurisdiction: additional documents
You must provide us with proof of good standing from your home jurisdiction. We accept:
- a recent screenshot from your home regulator’s online register;
- a copy of your insurance agent or broker licence from your home jurisdiction;
- a certificate of authority from your home regulator; or
- any combination of the above.
You must ensure this document shows all the following:
- your name;
- your licence number;
- the classes of insurance you're licensed to sell; and
- your current licence status or licence expiry date.

These annual fees apply if your home jurisdiction is outside the Yukon.

These annual fees apply if the Yukon is your home jurisdiction.

- Accident and sickness: $50
- General: $50

- You are required to pay your annual licensing fee online.
- We'll automatically renew your licence after you pay the fee.

We'll contact you by email for more information.
If we approve your application after we review it, we’ll email you an invoice for you annual licensing fee. Once you receive this invoice, you can pay through the portal.
Eligibility
You can apply to renew your insurance salesperson licence if you meet the following requirements.
- You hold a current Yukon insurance salesperson licence.
- You have a sponsoring insurance agent who’s licensed in the Yukon. This agent is not licensed to sell life or accident and sickness insurance.

You must provide us with proof of good standing from your home jurisdiction. We accept:

- a certificate of authority from your home regulator; or

Resident
This annual fee applies if the Yukon is your home jurisdiction. The annual licence fee is $25.

If your application is not approved

Eligibility
You can apply to renew your insurance special broker licence if you meet the following requirements.
- You hold a current Yukon insurance special broker licence.
- You maintain a surety bond for a minimum of $5,000.

You can apply to renew your insurance adjuster licence if you hold a current Yukon insurance adjuster licence.

- a certificate of authority from your home regulator; or

- You hold a current Yukon restricted travel agent licence.
- You have permission from a licensed Yukon insurer to sell their products.
