Rural community banking services

CIBC provides basic banking services to all community members. This includes people who do not have a CIBC bank account.

Services

All residents in your community can:

  • withdraw cash from bank accounts;
  • cash cheques from the Government of Yukon; and
  • cash cheques guaranteed by a First Nations government.

Online banking services

You can access online banking services if you hold an account with:

  • Bank of Montreal;
  • Bank of Nova Scotia;
  • CIBC;
  • First Nations Bank;
  • RBC; and
  • TD.

Your CIBC community banking agents have devices available to help you with mobile and online banking. This includes services such as:

  • depositing cheques with e-deposit;
  • paying bills online; and
  • making account balance inquiries.

These services will depend on the banking apps provided by your financial institution.

CIBC account holders

If you hold an account with CIBC, you’ll also be able to:

  • deposit cash into bank accounts;
  • buy Canadian and American currency bank drafts; and
  • buy American currency up to $250 in Canadian dollars.

Some services may involve wait times or require identification, so check with CIBC before you go. Contact a CIBC full-service banking centre for more information.

Support for small businesses

If you run a local business, CIBC will work with you to help meet your banking needs. Contact CIBC to learn more.

Support for First Nation governments

If you represent a First Nation government, CIBC can work with you to meet the needs of your Citizens. Contact CIBC to discuss this.

Working together to increase financial literacy

CIBC will help Yukoners with the transition to online banking services.

Over three-quarters (76 per cent) of Canadians used digital channels to do banking in 2019. This included online and mobile transactions.

This trend is set to continue as Canadian banks respond to customer preferences. We will see more convenient and accessible banking services online.

CIBC will work with Yukoners to adapt to this transition. This includes help with online and mobile banking and access to digital devices.

Previous banking service providers

The Government of Yukon began offering banking services in Yukon communities in November 1988.

The service provider transitioned from TD to CIBC between September and November 2020. During that time, CIBC worked with each community to provide information and minimize disruption.

Timeline of service providers

  • CIBC: 2020 to present
  • TD: 2008 to 2020
  • CIBC: 1988 to 2008
