The Government of Yukon manages the harvest of wildlife species within Game Management Areas (GMA). These are legal boundaries for areas within which authorities can make very specific regulations for managing big game. The areas are a combination of:
- Game Management Zones; and
- Game Management Subzones.
443 GMA in the Yukon are grouped into 11 Game Management Zones. Most zone boundaries follow highway centre lines, while subzone boundaries follow creeks and rivers. A GMA may include a mountainous area that has several mountains in it yet is only a portion of the mountain range. GMA do not cover national parks, but do cover the rest of the Yukon. These areas are legally defined by the 1:250,000 scale map series ENV.ADM.
These data are available at nominal scales of 1:250,000 and 1:1,000,000.
