As of May 2023, the Government of Yukon is reducing its mobile abattoir services’ operations and availability. The government-run mobile abattoir is not available for bookings.
New commercial abattoirs
In the spring of 2023, there will be 3 new commercial abattoirs coming into operation:
- 2 on-site; and
- 1 mobile.
These commercial abattoirs will be licensed, inspected and certified. The abattoir operators intend on offering full services to meet seasonal and year-round slaughter needs for the local livestock sector.
We encourage livestock producers to discuss their slaughter needs directly with the abattoirs. You can find the abattoir listings on this page, under the “Meat” step.
Government mobile abattoir operational plan
The Government of Yukon is preparing an operational plan for its mobile abattoir for the 2023 season. Government officials will develop the plan in coordination with:
- the Yukon Agricultural Association
- producers; and
- commercial abattoir operators.
They’ll determine if the government-run mobile abattoir is required to fill service gaps in the general Whitehorse area for the fall of 2023.
The Agriculture Branch will work with livestock producers in the northern communities to ensure continued access to inspected slaughter services.
