Child car seat safety tips
Before you install your car seat
Read your child car seat manufacturer's instructions
Make sure your car seat will accommodate your child's:
- weight; and
- height.
Read your vehicle owner's manual
To find out:
- where to place your car seat; and
- where the tether anchors are; and
- find out which car seat your child should be using.
A child car seat has an expiry date, and:
- reduces the risk of fatality by 71%; and
- reduces the risk of serious injury by 67%.
A child car seat is a one-time use safety item. If it is involved in a collision it must be replaced, even if your child wasn't in the seat at the time.
One of the most common mistakes is moving your child to the next car-seat stage too early. On average 86% of all child car seat installations are incorrect in Canada.
