  • aftermarket products and their safety;
  • air travel; and
  • purchasing.

Child car seat safety tips

Before you install your car seat

Read your child car seat manufacturer's instructions

Make sure your car seat will accommodate your child's:

  • weight; and
  • height.

Read your vehicle owner's manual

To find out:

  • where to place your car seat; and
  • where the tether anchors are; and
  • find out which car seat your child should be using.

A child car seat has an expiry date, and:

  • reduces the risk of fatality by 71%; and
  • reduces the risk of serious injury by 67%.

A child car seat is a one-time use safety item. If it is involved in a collision it must be replaced, even if your child wasn't in the seat at the time.

One of the most common mistakes is moving your child to the next car-seat stage too early. On average 86% of all child car seat installations are incorrect in Canada.
