The Yukon Development Corporation is helping to increase the supply of renewable energy and reduce diesel consumption in the Yukon. The Innovative Renewable Energy Initiative provides funding for community-led renewable energy projects.
Eligibility
Applicants
- Municipal governments
- First Nations governments
- First Nations development corporations
- Community societies or associations
- Yukon-based businesses
Projects
Your project must generate electricity, heat energy or decrease demand on the grid and be based in the Yukon. It must also use proven technology from renewable sources such as:
- photovoltaic solar panels;
- solar thermal collectors;
- wind turbines;
- biomass;
- gasification;
- energy storage
- hydro; and
- run-of-river hydro.
We may give preference to projects that will lower greenhouse gas emissions. Being eligible for and applying to the fund does not guarantee that we'll accept your application.
Independent Power Production
To produce power in the Yukon the project needs to become an independent power producer. For more information, please visit the Independent Power Production website.
Funding available
75 per cent of eligible expenses to a maximum of $500,000 per project, whichever is less. Being eligible for and applying to the fund does not guarantee that we'll accept your application.
