Together with the Yukon First Nations and Yukon communities, the Department of Justice is involved in many community-justice programs and committees.
Through grass-roots initiatives, community justice helps with the:
- protection of society; and
- health of communities and individuals.
In partnership with Justice Canada and First Nations, we provide funding and support to 8 Yukon restorative justice projects. These programs may include community-based initiatives such as:
- conferencing;
- pre- or post- diversion;
- peacemaker circles or court;
- circle sentencing;
- community safety;
- land-based programs;
- reintegration;
- clan-based systems;
- Elders' boards; and
- committees.
Who can take part?
These projects provide support and healing to:
- people who have been accused of a crime;
- people who have been harmed;
- people who have caused the harm;
- family and friends; and
- other community members.
How do you get involved?
