All dental hygienists and therapists in the Yukon must:
- register;
- hold a Yukon licence; and
- renew their licence every year.

A dental hygienist licence allows you to:
- use the title of dental hygienist; and
- work to the full extent of Yukon regulations.
Eligibility
You must meet 1 of the following sets of requirements.
Option 1
- You:
- have graduated from an accredited dental hygiene program; and
- earned a certificate of qualification from the National Dental Hygiene Certification Board of Canada (NDHCB). This certificate must be dated no more than 2 years before you apply for a Yukon licence.
Option 2
- You:
- graduated from a non-accredited dental hygiene program;
- completed an equivalency assessment with NDHCB and were deemed eligible; and
- earned a certificate of qualification from NDHCB no more than 2 years before you applied for a Yukon licence.
Option 3
- You:
- hold a valid dental hygienist licence in another Canadian jurisdiction; and
- are in good standing in that jurisdiction.
Complaints or actions against you
If you've had any complaints or disciplinary or criminal action against you:
- we'll assess your eligibility on a case-by-case basis; and
- we may not approve your registration or licensing.
Documents we require
You'll need to provide the following documents with your application. You must provide these in an electronic format such as a JPG, PDF or PNG.
All applicants
- Your current government-issued photo ID (not a health care card)
Applicants registered to practise in another Canadian jurisdiction
Your verification of registration, sent directly to Professional Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (PLRA) from the jurisdiction.
Applicants not registered to practise in another Canadian jurisdiction
We'll need:
- a copy of your certificate from the National Dental Hygiene Board of Canada; and
- copies of:
- your diploma from an accredited dental hygiene program; or
- your diploma from an unaccredited dental hygiene program and the Equivalency Assessment Report from NDHCB.

Fees
Registration (1-time fee): $100
Annual certificate fee: $50
Payment
- When you submit your application online, you must pay your 1-time registration fee.
- You must pay this fee before we'll review your application.
- The online system will prompt you to pay the fee by credit card.
- This fee is non-refundable.
- If we approve your application, we'll email you an invoice for your $50 annual licensing fee. Once you receive this invoice, you can pay through the portal.
A dental therapist licence allows you to:
- use the title of dental therapist; and
- work to the full extent of Yukon regulations.

- you hold a valid dental therapist licence in another Canadian jurisdiction; and
- you’re in good standing in that jurisdiction.

All dental hygienists licensed in the Yukon can apply for the following endorsements:
- administer infiltration anesthetic; and
- administer mandibular block anesthetic.
You must submit documents confirming completion of endorsement coursework.
You must provide your proof of completion in an electronic format such as JPG, PDF or PNG.
To add an endorsement to your licence simply go to “Request a licence change” when logged into the online portal. There you will find the “Request a special endorsement or advanced certification” button which will guide you through process.
For all licence types
- Create a profile. With your profile you'll be able to:
- log in to the portal at any time;
- upload documents;
- view your registration information; and
- apply for a licence.

Tips
- You do not have to submit an application to create a profile on the portal.
- Prepare your documents ahead of time. Save them first as digital files so they're ready to upload when you apply.
- You can take a picture of a document with your mobile device to submit it as a digital document.
